DARWIN
New Yorker Darnelle "Darwin" White is one of the unfortunate victims in VibeXP's The Coldest Winter and a major character in the game. He may look docile enough, but don't be fooled--he's got plenty of tricks up his sleeve to help him survive a frozen New York City!
Drawin' Darwin
One of my first assignments as a 2D Artist for VibeXP's The Coldest Winter (TCW) was to draw Darwin and Jovanna's first interaction in Ch. 1 Gunpoint, highlighting Darwin's sly and mischievous character as he reaches for a tense and defensive Jovanna in downtown NYC.
In line with TCW's spicy gameplay mechanics, 2 versions of Darwin will be shown here: 'normal' and 'demon'.
NORMAL
Working closely with VibeXP's Art Director, Evan Hernandez, I adopted TCW's rugged and edgy anime art style which features alongside it strong pops of color that makes the game's art vibrant and spunky with the sharpest tinge of mystery and intrigue. This is achieved with A TON of crosshatching (which I deeply enjoy) that follows sharp dramatic lighting on top of cel shading.

DEMON
Creating Demon Darwin was a little bit of a challenge as there were multiple ways I imagined this handsome young man to be even more devilish. Above, you can see the process of the final rendition which came out as fiery as expected, but my initial take on him was a little more on the deranged side rather than menacing as he was intended to be.
Below are the Demon Darwins that weren't able to make the cut, but horrific nonetheless!
As much as we would've loved a deranged version of Darwin, I don't think it's very on-brand for him. :p
